Man gets second life because of street dog, comes back to express gratitude

ALAPPUZHA: 48-year-old John P T, a temporary employee of Alappuzha ground water department, got a second life because of a street dog after a road accident. On Tuesday, Kavunkal villagers witnessed a strange get-together when John came to express his gratitude to the street dog named Kuttappan.
It was in the wee hours of November 26, 2020, John, a native of Edayazham, Vaikom, met with an accident while he was returning to his home after duty.He met with an accident when the glare of the high beam of a vehicle came in the opposite direction and dazzled his eyes. His two-wheeler lost control and hit on a culvert and John fell into a nearby pond. He lost his consciousness partially. Nobody noticed the accident as it took place in the early morning. At the same time, the street dog ‘Kuttappan’ who was lying near the accident spot saw it and he started to bark loudly standing near the accident spot. Soon the people, who were doing morning walk noticed the unusual behavior of the dog and they found John in the pond.
Soon they took him to a nearby private hospital and later he was shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. John on Tuesday started to travel after his over a month -long treatment. He along with his family friends -civil police officer of Mararikulam police station PS Sindhu and KSRTC employee Mohan Kumar- reached Kavunkal and met Kuttappan. Seeing John, Kuttappan ran to him and waved his tail fondly. The people, who also gathered there, wondered and enjoyed the beautiful sight.
"I cannot forget Kuttappan. The people who took me to hospital told me about him and its role behind my escape from the accident. I requested the local people to give him to me as I am ready to protect and care for him. But they told me they cannot even think of it," said John, whose family consists of wife and three children.
